I enjoyed this post. I am one of those young persons just recently getting into genealogy. This is the first post of yours I have read and heard. I am an new administrator for my surname Y-DNA project. The project started in May of this year. We also call it a "surname group" to include all things genealogy for this one name study. I know of a few group members who have put many years of research in our surname genealogy which reaches back to the 17th century. I feel there is a fine line I'm walking and don't just want to say "give me every thing you have". I have e-mailed a couple of members about 3 weeks ago asking them as politely and respectfully as I knew how if they could upload their GEDCOM files to our group site if they had one. They have not done so and have not replied to the email request.
I will search your blogs for topics on Y-DNA surname group projects as soon as I'm done typing this comment. I am looking for information on how to encourage all group members to share more of their information particularly family photographs and family memorabilia and GEDCOM files would be nice too. Thanks DearMYRTLE. I have become a new fan!
